I want to real-talk with you about something that’s kind of taboo…
Lip fillers.
Yes, we're talkin’ injections in your lips.
Don’t gasp, we're here to help you maneuver this topic…
Do you ever think about getting lip fillers, but you’re too afraid people will liken you to the next Kylie Jenner?
Or perhaps you’re afraid you’ll receive a botched job and end up looking like those duck-lip selfies nobody wants to see?
You’re not the only one with these thoughts.
Today, we’re going to talk about all things lip fillers⏤your guide to a perfect pout!
But first, you have to remember to...
DO YOUR RESEARCH
You wouldn’t buy a brand-new house without spending time looking for the best real estate agent, neighborhood and dialing in your preferences, correct?
Exactly. Do the same with lip fillers.
Research doctors in your area, go in for a consultation and definitely take your time.
Even though lip fillers are meant to be temporary, you’re still injecting a needle into your lips⏤make sure you’re completely comfortable with the doctor and procedure you choose.
And remember⏤you can always change your mind! No pressure just find out what works for you.
Ok, let’s talk about all things lip fillers…
WHAT ARE LIP FILLERS?
Most lip fillers are temporary and contain Hyaluronic Acid (in different forms). These temporary, hyaluronic acid lip fillers are FDA approved and⏤unlike any other time in history⏤are highly popular.
There are different versions and names for these lip fillers:
• RESTYLANE SILK⏤known to be a subtle enhancer.
• RESTYLANE & RESTYLANE-L⏤known for volume; the only difference is the Restylane-L has lidocaine in it for potential prevention of pain.
• JUVÉDERM VOLBELLA XC⏤lip line definition, in addition to smoothing out fine lines found around the mouth area.
• JUVÉDERM ULTRA XC⏤known for a plush lip look.
Depending on the look you’re going for, a combination of these lip fillers can be used to achieve the desired appearance.
Ok, now you know what lip fillers are⏤what does the procedure entail?
LIP FILLERS⏤PROCEDURE
After cleansing the area, potentially applying a topical numbing cream (and allowing it to kick in) and then the injections – you’re looking at less than an hour from start to finish.
Of course, this is a ballpark figure, so don’t forget to ask your injector what their process looks like and how long a visit will take.
...But is it painful?
LIP FILLERS & PAIN
Isn’t this the question we always ask – but will it hurt?
What’s that famous quote, “Pain is beauty.”
Hmmm, perhaps some truth to that.
As for lip filler, the most pain people feel is the lidocaine shot.
After that, the filler is usually described as a pricking sensation that is soon followed by the filler moving through the lips (potentially uncomfortable pressure here).
You’ll most likely see volume right away but swelling and bruising can occur for up to a few days after the procedure.
We don’t recommend an evening photo shoot after your session!
LIP FILLERS & SIDE EFFECTS?
Small bumps may occur around your lips but usually go away after a week or so.
With any procedure, serious (but rare) complications can occur.
For lip fillers, blood clots can occur as well as significant pain or discoloration. Please get in touch with your doctor immediately, if you experience these side effects.
LIP FILLERS⏤CARE & MAINTENANCE
Post-procedure you want to keep your blood flow to a minimum. That means no exercise for a couple of days and definitely keep those hands away from your lips for at least 48 hours.
If you love your (new) perfect pout, touch-ups are ideal. Speak with your injector about your lifestyle (Full of movement? Love the couch?)
Those factors can help determine when your ideal touch-up window is.
So, you’re thinking about what your perfect pout would look like?
To lip filler or not…that is the question.
As the diligent student you are, do your research and take your time.
Remember most lip fillers are temporary (speak to your injector about what can be done if you absolutely hate how your lips turn out with filler).
In less than an hour, you’ll probably feel a small amount of pain and experience discomfort, but that should go away.
(Contact your doctor immediately if you experience extreme pain and discoloration.)
And in a few days, you’ll be ready for your close-up, darling!
