What else do you have to look forward to in the fall and winter (other than pumpkins, scary movies and holidays)?
Chemical Peels!
We know that’s probably not the answer you were looking for, but if you enjoy a younger, smoother, more hydrated complexion — chemical peels are your winter best friend.
And we’re going to tell you why — including everything you need to know about chemical peels.
But first, we need to talk about skin prep for chemical peels.
Why Do I Need To Skin Prep For A Chemical Peel?
You want your chemical peel to work smarter for you, not harder, right?
That’s exactly what happens when you prep your skin for a chemical peel.
HERE ARE 4 SKIN PREP TIPS FOR CHEMICAL PEELS
1. STAY OUT OF THE SUN
This is not a time to
forget about sunscreen and learning to love the shade.
Even if it’s wintertime, sunscreen should still be a part of your skincare regimen.
2. ENZYME PEELS
Enzyme peels are perfect pre-treatments to chemical peels.
This gentle exfoliant helps to remove the top layer of skin, speed up cell turnover and give your skin a fresh, glowing look.
3. RETINOLS
Retinols target cell turnover and skin exfoliation (hint, exfoliation is a big step in skin prep!).
4. DERMAPLANING
This exfoliation ninja helps “shave” the surface of the skin and remove the top layer — “peach fuzz” and all!
Don’t forget to speak with your skincare professional about skin prep before a chemical peel — they can customize a plan that’s just right for your skincare needs.
What Is A Chemical Peel?
Chemical (single or combination of chemicals) peels can be applied to your face, hands, and neck and aim to remove dry, damaged and dead skin cells by speeding up the natural exfoliation process.
This in-office treatment can improve the look and feel of your skin to reveal a smooth, healthy appearance.
What Are The Benefits of A Chemical Peel?
• Chemical peels can be customized for your specific skincare needs
• Chemical peels exfoliate the outer layer of your skin — which is the layer exposed to factors that damage, stress and dry your skin
• Chemical peels couple well with other skincare procedures
• Reduces acne, mild scarring, fine lines and wrinkles
• Removes dead skin cells
• Improves skin texture
• Stimulates collagen and elastin
• Reveals youthful, smoother looking skin
Is A Chemical Peel Painful?
Most people report a temperature change (warming or cold sensation) on the face and then slight tingling or itching.
These are all normal to experience during your treatment.
As always, speak with your esthetician if you feel uncomfortable or don’t know what a “normal” feeling is when it comes to your chemical peel.
What To Expect During and Post Chemical Peel
As we said, you may experience a slight temperature change, tingling or itching.
The treatment can last anywhere from 30-minutes to 90-minutes.
After your chemical peel, your skin may look red and feel tight.
(This is where you DEFINITELY want to stay out of the sun and use sunscreen!).
And don’t forget to hydrate.
Peeling may last 3-7 days (depending on your type of chemical peel) and most importantly, your esthetician will give you specific instructions and recommendations to help you maximize the results of your peel.
